Cebu
The Gateway to a Thousand Journeys
Cebu is known to be the oldest city and the first capital of the Philippines. In 1521, Ferdinand Magellan started the Spanish exploration and colonization in this city. But now, it is considered to be one of the most developed cities of the country being the second largest metropolitan area after Metro Manila.
This city has a lot of historical sites to show from old churches and chapels to former forts turned museums; however, this is not all Cebu has to offer. It is also the home of beautiful beaches and islands. They've got the urban and provincial life in one marvelous city. And don't get me started with the residents. Cebuanos are notable for their God-given talents and friendly attitude. There are over 120 famous people that are from this province such as Kim Chui, Lucio Tan, Enrique Gil, and much more. And they have contributed much to the culture and various industries of the country. As Karencitta said in her song, "You really need a Cebuana!"

I am lucky to personally see the sites of Cebu. Just like Fort San Pedro that I was able to tour inside in. I got to learn countless history facts about Cebu and the Philippines. It made me more interested in learning history. And after this trip, history became my favorite subject. I grew to become more interested in learning the past and understand the culture then. Another tourist destination that I visited was Magellan's Cross, which is very historic as the cross is said to be placed there in the order of Ferdinand Magellan. If you're into history, then Cebu is the place to learn new things.

You might think that Cebu is only known for their sites and residents, but there's more! This city is also famous for their flavorful lechon. Yes, you heard it right. Cebu serves the best lechon in the country. Just look at that picture! Doesn't it make you hungry? You know how in demand Cebu lechon is? Well, let me tell you that even people from Luzon order their lechon from Cebu and pay for it to be brought to Manila. Honestly, my family has done this. Well what can I say, the crispy skin and soft meat makes our mouth water and want more.

Love what you hear? Then visit Cebu now to see it for yourself instead of just hearing it from me. As the Asian Proverb said, "It's better to see something once, than to hear about it a thousand times."
